More from the 2012 SHOT Show…

What else do I love about SHOT? The people. SHOT Show is always packed with the grassroots heroes of our industry otherwise known as the gun and gear dealers, the many manufacturing and sales reps, and, of course, members of the media. You never know who you are going to run into. In a lot of ways it’s like a four day happy hour! Continuing with my favorite moments from SHOT, this post is all about just some of the über cool people at the show…

All the folks I have had the pleasure … Read the full story

Favorite Moments from SHOT Show – SHOOT Signing

SHOOT Book Signing

The National Shooting Sports Foundation’s (NSSF) SHOT Show was simply HUGE. I fed off the energy the entire week and in my opinion, it was the best SHOT Show yet! When I started to jot down all my favorite moments from the show for a blog post, there were so many. Instead of one really long post, I am breaking it all down into mini posts over the next few days and even put together a podcast. Podcasting is definitely new ground for me but I put out some feelers last year and based on great feedback, I put … Read the full story

Countdown to SHOT Show

I remember going to my first SHOT Show when I was in the Army. Members of the Army Marksmanship Unit scored entry because it was so close to home, in nearby Atlanta, Georgia.  I recall walking through the aisles oh so many years ago in complete awe. So this is the shooting, hunting and outdoor industry!  Even though I had been to plenty of gun shows when I was a kid, it was like nothing I had ever seen. Little did I know that a few years later, I would be working my first show.

SHOT Show is still exciting … Read the full story

My Top 11 Moments in Shooting in 2011

2011 goes in the books as one of the most memorable for me in my shooting career. It was very difficult to narrow down my year into just 11 moments, but here they are…

11. Adventures in 3-Gunning – I took a big leap out of my comfort zone this season and explored the sport of 3-Gun.  Many years ago I shot a few multi-gun style matches, but this sport has greatly evolved since then. I have a lot to learn about racing with the Smith & Wesson M&P15 and Benelli M2 and though 3-Gun is still very much in … Read the full story

20 Days & A Thank You Give Away

My 20th year shooting anniversary is coming to a close and I truly appreciate everyone who has helped me achieve so much this year. I am very thankful to have a supportive husband, amazing parents, family and friends. A huge thank you to my generous sponsors for allowing me to represent them and use their products:

And I have to thank all my subscribers and followers who have been with me on this journey.  I am running a little thank you give away with autographed photos as a way to say “thanks so much” for all your support.

Field to Fork – The Heart of the Matter

JulieG's Field to Fork - Venison Heart Burgundy Style

Living in northeastern Montana, I don’t exactly have many gourmet hot spots to frequent. Since moving here cooking has become a necessity, but it is also a hobby I enjoy. It also allows me to combine my love of hunting with experimenting in the kitchen.

I call my recipes my “Field To Fork” creations. My husband serves as my taste tester, providing his feedback in what I call his gourmet gauge.  The gauge is based on how many m’s in “Mmmmm” my dishes inspire. M is Good. Mm means yummy. Mmm translates to delicious. Mmmm inspires a, “shh… I need … Read the full story

Thanks + Giving

I have so much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving – a wonderful husband, delightful daughter, amazing family, great friends, the support of awesome companies – SO much to be thankful for. I am especially thankful for my parents. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for my mom and dad. Both my parents have been incredibly supportive, but it was my dad who introduced me to the world of competition shooting and hunting.

I wasn’t just his daughter growing up, I was my dad’s buddy. We traveled to matches together in a little camper. We designed, … Read the full story

My First Mule Deer Buck

IMG_4966

I’ve been a whitetail hunter since I was young. Moving to Montana and living not too far from the Milk River I’ve had some memorable seasons filling the freezer. I enjoy the peaceful nature of whitetail hunting – watching the deer, learning their patterns and the challenge of being completely still and silent.

In Montana you get one “A” tag. It’s good for either a whitetail or a mule deer buck. You can also apply for antlerless tags based on the species and region but when it comes to hunting a buck, you have to choose which species to take. … Read the full story
