It has been a crazy couple of months! In February I invited Katie Pavlich of Townhall.com to compete in the Smith & Wesson IDPA Indoor National Championships in Springfield, MA. For those of you who don’t know Katie, you may have seen her as a frequent contributor on Fox News. She is also the best selling author of Fast and Furious: Barack Obama’s Bloodiest Scandal and the Shameless Cover-Up. This was Katie’s first competition and I think it’s safe to say she had a great time. Here’s what she wrote about it:
- Training for self defense through competition
- IDPA Competition – It’s like a Lays potato chip, you just can’t have one
- Photos and video from my first IDPA shooting match
Paul Erhardt, as always, wrote up a great piece for The Shooting Wire. Check out his column “Between The Berms: She Was Just 17” for some awesome photos and a recap of the event. Then of course there’s Gun Girl Radio! ICYMI, Randi and I shared our experiences from the match along with some useful tips in the latest episode of the podcast.
After a full day mentoring Katie through the match my work wasn’t done. I got a little bit of shooting in with the Shooting USA crew on another Pro Tip. It’s a really cool tip based on one of the stages and will fit perfectly with the Indoor Nationals episode. I broke down for one of the most eye-catching and challenging stages of the match. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy Shooting Sports outdid themselves and created an entire stage featuring a duck blind. The props were incredible, complete with a blind, decoys and even a boat with targets that rolled through the stage and disappeared behind a wall. Look for the episode to air within the next couple of months.
The trip to Springfield was brief and I was back on a plane, heading home for another incredible opportunity. [INSERT Drumroll] I will be on Sarah Palin’s new show on the Sportsman Channel! [SQUEE] Amazing America debuts on April 3rd and a little birdie told me that I will be in the first episode! More details to follow on that soon, but in the mean time, check out the trailer for the show.
But wait, there’s more! Right after the crew left, I departed for a house hunting trip. I am excited to share that we are moving to Kansas City! Leaving Montana is bittersweet. We have truly fallen in love with our slice of heaven and all the wonderful hunting opportunities here. At the same time a sub four hour drive to the airport is rather appealing! Easy travel, more competition opportunities and hunting, especially for whitetail and turkey, are all big plusses too!
Needless to say things are crazy busy in the Golob residence as I get ready to pack up my girls for the big move. Somewhere in the middle of all that I am going to do my best to train for the World Action Pistol Championships and Bianchi and with a little luck, we will be settled in to our new home before the summer ends. So there are lots of boxes and miles ahead of me over the next several weeks. I may not get to post here and on social media as often as I like, but I hope you all understand. Best of luck with your shooting adventures!
