One of the things I wish I had more time for at SHOT Show was to take a gander at all the cool hunting stuff on the show floor. Some last-minute meetings popped up and though I properly accounted for waddle time and bathroom breaks, somewhere in my brain I still thought I would be able to zip around the booths when I found a spare 15 minutes here and there. Yeah, that didn’t happen.
For certain though, I wasn’t going to miss heading over to say hello to the amazing women of Prois. Not only am I honored to be a Pro Staffer with this gem of a company that designs clothing for the avid female hunter, but I have also found they are some of the most fun women to hang around. Case in point, on my visit to check out the new leather line from Prois, Barbara Baird of Women’s Outdoor News was also there for a funny pic moment.
Prois Hunting Apparel is truly top-notch and as a woman owned and run company I am proud to be affiliated with them. Prois has certainly been turning heads and even made the cover of Day 4 of the SHOT Show Dailies. You can read the entire issue from cover to cover online, but be sure to check out page 4.
For Prois, there’s more to this biz than making great clothes. The company also awards one incredible woman the Prois Award. This huntress not only has success in the field, she also commits time and efforts to conservation, management and community education. Trust me, it’s no easy contest to judge. This year I had the honor of being one the judges that helped whittle down applicants to just 12 finalists. After that, voting opened up to the world wide web where fellow hunters and outdoor enthusiasts had the chance to cast their vote for their favorite huntress. Prois added the cumulative judge scores to the online scores to determine the winner.
I was very sad to miss the press conference at SHOT announcing that Ruth Cusack was this year’s recipient of the Prois Award. I was doubly bummed that I never had the chance to meet Ruth to congratulate her in person. Ruth if you’re reading this… YOU ROCK! Read her entry essay to discover more about this talented woman.
